Helpdesk Delays
Dear Members, a problem with the support desk software 'hid' a few dozen tickets from view. If you have an unresolved query this will be the likely cause. We have been working through all open cases and you should hear back from us today. We do apologise for the delay - support issues are usually responded to promptly.

Email Service Restored
Due to an unforeseen critical failure on one of the mail servers and a corresponding failure in the detection system that would automatically switch your connection to another server, some users will have experienced errors when trying to connect to accounts during the course of the night. The affected server is back online and investigation into the cause of failure is ongoing. We will keep you updated to any further developments.

Our sincere apologies to those effected. Every effort is being made to prevent a recurrence of this problem.

Inbound Mail Delay - 2pm-5pm
There was currently an inbound mail delay of up to 60 minutes caused by an increase of spam email at the anti-spam gateway holding up scanning of legitimate email from approximately 1pm onwards. The queue was fully cleared by 5pm.

With regards to recent similar delays we took delivery this week of the required hardware to double our anti-spam capacity. This is currently being setup by the manufacturer and should be online sometime next week.

AntiSpam Upgrade - Greylisting Now Available
We have implemented a further layer to our anti-spam service to give your account even greater protection against unsolicited email.

From within webmail you can find a full explanation about Greylisting and how it helps you as well as the ability to turn it off should you find it not suiting your needs.

Click 'Options' -> 'Anti-Spam Settings' for this and all other spam and virus scanning options.

There is currently a delay on inbound mail delivery due to an issue with the spam filtering system. All email is arriving but is entering a queue for spam/virus scanning. Engineers are investigating and we hope to restore service as soon as possible.

  • It's been very useful to maintain an Oxford associated address to retain professionalism when not using my main work account. It has been a great back up to my work account for transferring files where a cap of 5mb was placed on attachments at work. Thank you.

  • It's all very good. Most impressive is the honest technical data in the 'News' column saying what's happening and giving advanced warnings about when there might be occasional downtime.

I've never seen this anywhere else and I think it's excellent. Also impressed by the fact that proper explanations are given on the odd occasions when something is amiss. All the e-mail accounts I have had have occasional downtime and the odd error message. This is the only one which has given explanations without me having to ask. It's brill.

Actually, I've never had trouble logging into this e-mail so reliability-wise I'm very happy.

I've been trying to think of one thing which it might be possible to improve and what I've come up with probably sounds ridiculously petty, probably because it is ridiculously petty. What it is, is that when I click on 'Secure Login' my browser informs me that the page contains secure and nonsecure items and asks me whether I want to display the nonsecure items. It would save me about a second a week if you made all the items on your secure login page secure so that that message wouldn't come up [Admin: this was fixed the morning it was reported].

At least that serves to emphasise how highly I rate your e-mail. Thanks for the great service and comprehensive technical support. Keep it up!

  • I think the site is a brilliant idea and I am in the process of telling as many people as I can about it.
